    Bastille Day

    It's a day off here today for celebrations.
    We're getting on with renovations , but have been hearing fireworks over the past few days.
    Anyone joining in with the celebrations???

    Bonne fête Nicos - actually, not sure that's appropriate what with the guillotining (?sp) and all but, hey ho

    We haven't heard any fireworks here but Mother nature must have been having her party last night because there were lots of lights and big bangs in the sky

      It's my daughter's birthday and she once spent it in France when on a school-trip. It certainly made the day memorable for her as the village they were staying in had lots of celebrations.
      Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

        Not this year Nicos, but I've been in France on Bastiile day.
        The hotel we were staying in was having a special dinner for the celebration - 6 courses with a taste of the appropriate wine to accompany each course - £25 each.
        It was truly memorable, wonderful food, beautifully cooked, graciously presented in lovely surroundings.
        On my last visit to France I had the feeling things had slipped a bit. But do take some time off to celebrate Bastille Day.

                      Now, just "why" where they called that? Any ideas?

                      Missing Bastille day at home this year, last year was a fantastic evening by the lake in front of an old chateau, fireworks, dancing and drinking. Splendid.
