  • Any Mensans here?

Just got my monthly Mensa magazine through while browsing these forums and wondered if there are any fellow Mensans here? If so, are you a member of any of the SIGs?

    Hi

I used to be a member, but allowed my subscription to lapse a few years back, so no longer get the publication. TBH I couldn't really see the point - has the organisation changed in recent times? I might consider reviving my membership - apparently you don't need to sit the test again!
    Never say never!

Many moons ago I took a degree in psychology and as part of somebodies research took about 30 'Stanford Binet' tests over a 6 week period (that got boring!)

Without exception all us students saw our 'IQ' rocket with practice

I think my initial score was mid 130's but by the end of the 'experiment' I could have given Stephen Hawkins a run for his money even though I'm so scatty I would probably lose my head if not screwed on!

I've thought about giving it a go but would probably get so nervous I'd score lower than the cabbages I grow on the lottie

Myself and my late OH passed the Mensa test with one point between us. We were too broke at the time to actually join. We knew several members who had who said it wasn't worth it!!. They found the meetings very boring.

Yes, I went to one meeting which was, quite frankly, a bit odd. Not really anyone I could relate to. They spent the whole time talking about their caravans :\

I think it could be worth it, perhaps if people took more of an interest. As it stands it does feel like a bit of a waste of time.

I took a Mensa test donkey's years ago, with an apparent IQ of 131. Dunno how accurate it is, or what it actually means (eg. I can't work out how to build stuff, but I can write a very long essay).

Tested at 167 many years ago, but never bothered to join or nuffink. Couldn't see the point.

You are so a lost sister G4, I tested donkeys ago at 167 as well but couldn't see the point in joining especially since His Lordship is a member tested at 170 - I didn't like being beaten

I tested at 148 but knew I was really just a dummy - so not interested at all.

As Mr H tested ridiculously high, I refuse to take the test. Wouldnt want to upset him by beating him hands down

I don't think I.Q. tests demonstrate anything beyond an ability to do I.Q. tests. I came out at 118 on the BBC's last programme, hosted by Anne Robinson and Philip Schofield, which i suppose is goodish, though I hoped to do better. I think my 1st-class honours degree is better evidence of intelligence, to be honest.
