Any Broadband experts out there?!

Watching TV will use a lot, we had a problem a few years back when we had no tv and watched programme via the web. It cost us quite a bit.

did you get this through on an email if so do not ring the number or reply to the email instead contact your service provided direct and tell them as there are a few scams out there saying that you have exceeded your limit you ring them on the number that they give release all personal detail and they walk away with your life pretty much

im sorry to worry you but this is serious if it is in an email contact the service provided ASAP

We had a nephew house sit a few years back,you would not believe how much bandwidth watching youtoob uses

we went unlimited when wifey started using I Play'r,which is basically streamed tv

BT do send out warning emails, as we often got them before we were unlimited and yes any video t v watching uses a lot. My youngest was the culprit watching You Tube. I think there is a guide on BT's website about how much data different things take.

I'd love to be an expert but with only 8 G's a month it's hard!

The govt has enforced providers giving us notice of 80% usage, and then 100% usage. We get shaped after we use it up (sometimes 3 days into the month

) but for those who have to pay huge fees for overusage, it stops them having thousands of dollars at the end of the month. I used to get txt'd the 80% and the mobile would send me a message saying 80% at work, then before I got home it would txt me 100% gone!
They have now started emailing. And my email provider puts the warnings into the scammers section. The provider even sent an email saying about scammers, and that went into the scammers section too.

We go to our providers site - an from there we can see how much we have used on and off peak on a daily basis - and work out 'who done it' by who was home at that time! Youtube, photos, and streaming use up a lot of you allowance. I'd definately have a look at their site. But not from the email you received, go directly to their site.

My son uses anything from 70-120 gb a month depending on how much TV he's watching, and how many new games he's bought. They seem to be 30gb downloads for everything via steam these days.

We were frequently going over our paid for quota: it was Himself, making "free" videos for his mates. Those free DVDs were costing us �30-�50 a month in overuse fines

Thanks for your help everyone, it is as I suspected then.

Trouble is, he doesnt give us any money, so not sure how to get anything out of him for it!

Can you upgrade to unlimited it if he paid the extra? Is he working?

If you can, upgrade to a unlimited package or if your router allows it, you can put a block on websites like youtube, etc.

I had a look at the website, and its an extra �8 a month for the unlimited, so if he wants to continue watching it, he'll have to stump up...

he is working Zaz, but has to work a month in hand (he only started at the beginning of Sept)- so should be giving us some money at the end of Oct.
I cant really block things on his comp, Hamesy - I wouldnt know where to begin - and if he agrees to pay then I dont mind.

I'm with you northpaul - I rang a friend once to ask how to block my boys but not myself off the computer. His answer....I might be able to tell them how to do it over the phone, but you're never going to understand it!
I'm envious of your unlimited price, and the fact that you even have that option!

Feral its only BT, but including phone and line rental its �35 a month now....!!
