  • Anti Virus help

Ive recently had problems with my laptop and caught a virus.
Not been on any dodgy sites as far as i'm aware. Honest!

I've been using McAfee for years but would like to try something new.
And Mcafee took money out of my account 6 weeks before renewal was due. Grrr!

I've heard that Norton doesn't play well with other programs on computers.
Also Bitdefender is ranked "Best Buy" by Which but reports are that it slows down your browsing!

What are your recommendations or ideas please?

There's a recent thread on here...

Lol! Just noticed you started that thread.

avast! Free Antivirus - Download Software for Virus Protection

Avast is a great product and the price is good too - you could always try Avast Pro version if you wanted to spend money!

I use malwarebytes even with Mcafee because it gets rid of the trojans and mcafee doesnt always pick them up. Which is why i want to change.
Must look at the free software

my computer geek husband won't use anything but Norton 360. Kaspersky also rates well in the geek press.

I've used AVG and Avast without problems. Didn't get on with Norton at all - especially with the Price!

Norton is best avoided as it slows your pc down horrendously and is difficult to uninstall.
Avg, whilst free, is also heavy on usage.
I have recently switched to Avast and am very happy. It auto-updates at least once a day, often more.
Sent from my pc cos I don't have an i-phone.

I have used Norton for many years, I have Norton 360. It does waht it says on the box as far as I am concerned. The online chat thing that connects you with a live technical person is fantastic, I probally use that facility about one a year on average, and they are actually live! One year they took control of my pc and totally sorted it out, and it is all in the price, no extra, and you get to use it on 3 computers at one time. Just my experience, probally need to just Google 'norton 360' , hope it helps, I think it is about 60 70 pounds per year.

theres loads of java exploits out there atm, if you update java, be sure that the old version is deleted/removed, also stop your machine saving temp internet files and/or delete them regularly.

I am an IT pro and I use Avast on my 3 home computers as I find even AVG slows them down a little. Malwarebytes and Spybot are also excellent free tools to have available
