  • Angry at an incompetent Ebay seller

I am now in the unfortunate position of not having enough bits for my sisters hen night. As most you you know and can empathise with I am on a tight budget but want to give my sister the same kind of hen night I had and we gave to my other sister. This is the last one of the three of us and that makes it even more special.

The one item my sister stipulated I MUST get was some certain straws. Although not the best price I purchased from this seller as a combined postage discount was offered and there were a couple more items suitable such as L plate table confetti and some fun slogan badges for her to give to some of the other "hens". When I had finished buying, I requested a total on the invoice screen stating I would just be awaiting the postage to be discounted. I then chased a couple of times a 1/2 week intervals and was getting understandably concerned they wouldnt arrive for the weekend.

Then when I log on to check on Monday I find they have commenced proceedings to issue unpaid item strikes against me. I responded immediately, stating I was simply awaiting a postage discount and then I would be paying immediately. I did this for each item, with time or energy I dont really have! and also sent a seperate message asking them to respond to my previous message.

Checking back yesterday I find they havent responded to the unpaid item dispute replies or reduced postage. They did send me a reply though, which I opened with eager anticipation of a resolution and maybe getting the bits on time after all. The message said (along the lines of) what was the question. Boy was I mad! The cheek that they didnt even search their previous messages to find out! They havent bothered at all have they! I sent a message back explaining and reminding them I need the items by Friday and I would have to go elsewhere if I didnt hear back. I even stated that even a reply stating why they were unwilling to reduce the postage would be helpful. After all the postage reduction is only worth £2 and if I had received the courtesy of a reply I may have forgone that. The situation is now compounded though as I see some negatives appearing for poor communication/non-delivery and although I accepted that with their high rating some negatives are inevitable, upon investigation previous negatives tell much the same story.

I looked for some replacement straw thingys last night and asked a seller if they could get them to me by Friday and I received a lovely reply only hours later so I have purchased some from them and fingers crossed they will arrive on time. I dont know how much further I should take my complaint though? I looked at my account this am and find no response from them again this am and rang ebay for advice and they talked me through how to get their contact info which I have done and it will be emailed within 24 hours. They advised me to try my hardest to resolve the dispute but part of me cannot be bothered - I have enough on my plate puking up (oh yes proper morning sickness now!) every couple of hours but part of me just wants to leave a negative to teach them a lesson and warn other unsuspecting ebayers but I dont think you can leave negatives now anyway so what is the point.

Hope everyone is having a better day than me,

    a despondant Tammy

I am sure you can still leave negatives. Sellers cannot use the threat of negative reply to bully people into giving positive feedback that they haven't earned, but I am sure it is still possible to give negative feedback as a buyer.
I dealt with a company recently which make it clear, on every item they sell, that they don't deal with 'after sales queries' through the e-bay message system, but under their own approach. The feedback they have received made it clear that some people hadn't read this. They had 99.5% positive feedback, and every negative bar one was about lack of reply via e-bay. When I had problems with the item, they refunded my money before I returned it!

That is obviously NOT the sort of problem you have! I can appreciate that big businesses sometimes get 'hiccups' in communication, but this one is NOT ON!!

I had a similar experience with ebay, but in my case I was waiting for an address to send a cheque too, not to mention a payee name! After 3 emails and no replies I posted a feedback (3 weeks later) to state 'Waste of time, no correspondence after successful bid'. I didn't go on ebay for months after, so was shocked to eventually go on and find an 'Non-paying bidder' comment in my feedback. Being an infrequent user, it lowered my feedback from 100% to something like 90%.

I complained to ebay, refering to the messages and emails I had sent and I basically got a reply to say 'up yours, we don't care'. Despite his feedback being a total lie, they refused to remove it. Strangely, he hid all feedback after that and then his account closed.

I haven't bought anything from ebay since (that was late 2005/beginning 2006) and I have to say I don't miss it!

I would leave negative feedback warning other people of this seller! I would also not let it get to you too much hunny, not in your condition :-)

I have had some weird experiences with ebay, email the customer service department and explain what you have told us, they should be understanding, send them a copy of emails and messages you sent to the seller, showing your attempts to try to get through to them.

I hope you receive the fancy straws on time and have a lovely time at the hen night.

My sympathies FD. I have found that emailing direct (if you can) has a better result. Ebay's own messaging system is not as efficient as they'd have us believe. I've had occasions when two messages have arrived together, that were sent days apart. Many messages just seem to go 'missing' and aren't delivered at all!

You could do without the stress really, couldn't you!

a buyer can leave a choice of neg nutral or positive, a seller can only leave positive feed back or choose not to leave one, so you can leave a negative for them.
