American style fridge freezer?

I've got a big one Manda (well, if you're going to have one), but I've found that there's too much fridge space, but not enough freezer. If you've lots of produce to freeze, I would recommend a separate, maybe chest freezer?

I would go for either a fridge with seperate freezer sitting on the top of each other, or fridge and chest freezer. American ones are ok if you have the room but seem small inside so not as much room as you think.

Ta. Just checked fridge with seperate freezer on top, most seem no bigger than fridge-freezer - seperate freezers are only about 3-3.5cu ft capacity. haven't room for a chest freezer, not really keen either.

I remember seeing 'horror tales' about American fridge freezers spontaneously defrosting but can't remember what it was all about, anyone else remember? *eek*!

American ones are quite wide so do you have room for a fridge and an uprightfreezer to stand next to each other

We have an american style fridge freezer and love it! There's a lot more freezer space than in a standard fridge freezer and it's not as big as having 2 uprights next to each other.
They do come in different sizes and some have ice/water dispensers while others don't.
One tip though, if you do decide to get one, make sure you measure whatever doorways it will need to go through carefully before choosing, as getting them into a kitchen with narrow doors can be a challenge.

I wondered about that - I did see something about appliance door removal, whilst flicking between websites, how on earth do you decide whether the damn thing will fit thru your house doors?!

We also had to have a check about how much weight the floor would bear, it's stone so not a problem. I have never had a problem with frost in the fridge or freezer, you just don't get any and the fridge is really, really cold.

Measure the fridge in all directions width, height, front to back, side to side everything, measure the width of the door's you have to go through when open make sure you have some room for fingers, to go through if you havent got a trolley which if you are having it delivered they should have one.

We have one of the American Big 'uns so if you get one with a cold water dispenser you will need to get it plumbed into your water system. If you do this its advisable to have an in-line water filter as well, as there is nothing worse than have ice cubes in your G&T and finding out, that when they are melting there are bits of calcium floating about or have sunk to the bottom. Still, you can always slurp the G&T through your teeth.

I've got a samsung one. It's nice etc - but the freezer islacking in space - and I went for the larger freezer one... its still too small though. We just had to have the compressor replaced under warranty - and it's common fault on samsungs. They may look good, but I'd not recommend samsung at least anyway.

We're going to be hooking power up in the garage and buying a chest freezer.

Been looking at the LG ones - without a water dispenser, as I can take the lid off a bottle!

They have 2 year warranty's. I think around 7cu ft space in the freezer will be plenty for two - twice as big as we have now. Still thinking about how big they are...we have space and concrete floors..hmmm.

The delivery men had to take the doors off ours (even though we had measured up) but they managed to squeeze it in.

I sell them and have one, but the freezer size is poor. Neff do an integrated one which is just a full height freezer which fits in a tall housing. You could have a undercounter fridge along side if that ratio better suits.

Hi Dave, we don't really have room in the kitchen for seperate undercounter fridge & freezer. In the dining area there's a space by the side of the chimney breast that is 'perfect' for a side-by-side fridge freezer (about 1m wide by 70cm deep). We've an old fridge freezer there atm, that has about 160lt fridge & 100lt freezer net capacity. We'd like a bigger freezer in the next one and so it seems that the easiest way is to get a big 'yankee style' one. And at least they look prettier than the old style ones!
