  • Am back after hen tragedy

Hi all...sorry I haven't been on in a while and disappeared without explanation. We had a hen death, followed by a sick hen that has taken me weeks to turn around. So here we are again and I am starting to get out and taste fresh air again, which is great.
Anyway apologies for beggaring off without explanation!

Cheers all guys - sorry Snadger and Flo. Hi Miss Z - got something for you - we must meet again. Been touch and go - to top it all Madeline has decided to start with laboured breathing again so am off to the vets again. Think I'll ask for a booster/tonic for myself. Do need that coffee though Z
Nice to speak with you all again HF and AP. have missed the forum greatly.

Bad new I'm afraid. Despite everything we have lost her this morning. I don't know what we are doing wrong, because we scrupulously clean everything, best feed, wormed, organic veg, kept red mite/louse free. Everything we could do we've done. Yet still we lose two hens like this. I just don't understand. She was my favourite too. Me and Mr VVG are gutted.

I'm sorry you lost your hens. What does the vet think? Very sad.

I'm sure its not something you are doing wrong , its probably something foreign coming in from other birds. We get very attached to our chooks VVG, I had to give my favourite away last week, as she was defeathering the others. All attempts to stop her have failed, she is now in a new home where she is no longer top billing.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

Chest infection but I am not convinced. There was a dead pigeon under my car three weeks ago and when I've stopped balling my eyes out I am going to call the RSPB as I think MW is right. We must have something from the wild bird population. I feel like I've lost a dear old friend. I loved her to bits. She had her beak in strawberries yesterday and yet less than 24 hours later she's gone.

Glad to see you back too, VVG and I wish the reason you were away was a happier one. Sorry to hear about your hen.
