  • Ain't life grand?

Please forgive the enthusiasm of a newbie, this is my first Spring of growing my own stuff. Every day I get up and there's something new happened. The blackcurrant bushes I got cheap from Wilkos last August and I thought were dead have now got leafs. The rhubarb I planted last Novenber that I thought I'd killed are now about 6 inches tall. My baby tomato plants are looking strong, they've got proper leafs now, not just cotyledons. The Dwarf French Beans that I planted thanks to PigletWillie's thread are growing at a rate of knots and every day there is something new poking it's head up in the propagators. Just hope this wonderful weather we've had the last couple of days is a sign that we might actually get a decent summer this year.

I've been so humbled by my new garden for the same reasons! My cherry tree - which was a bare stick when bought - has loads of bushy new leaves!

Me and the dog "do the rounds" in the morning. I open the patio doors and we go and have a look around all the pots and beds to see whats new.

I'm also enjoying the privacy of having noone overlook my garden. I can sit out at night in my jammies with a glass of red and my book because its so mild! I'm optimistic for this years weather!!

I get excited every year at this time. I go out in the garden every morning and something has grown a bit more or just poking its head out of the grounds, its really great!

You don't need to apologise for your enthusiasm Hotstuff. It's what it's all about.

The first thing I do every morning is check round my seed trays and pots to see how everything is doing and what new babies have appeared. I've been growing for years and that joy never goes away.

Then a walk round the garden to see what is poking out of the ground or bursting into leaf.

Maybe we're mad, but if the whole world was as mad as us it would be a better place.

I know just what you mean. We've been here for just over 4 years and tho I've worked my bits off in the garden and loved every minute of it, between bouts of the chemo/illness etc, I've never really sort of felt I've 'owned' it.

For some reason this year everything - like everything, hedge cutting, replacing furniture and above all, growing stuff (which is really all I've done in the past few years) - has clicked. Could be the fact we're having March glorious weather, because I'm off the chemo and feeling well, not too sure at all, this year SOMETHING is different.

But at the moment, head totally engaged, repairing and making things for the garden, the raised beds are looking so spiffy, composters are all firing on all cylinders, loads of clearing - and the weather forecast for the next few days is up to 21 degrees.

Yeppers, life is pretty bloody good thank you.

Don't apologise for being enthusiastic! We need more people being like that - especially during the winter months.

What with one thing and a mother I haven't been in the garden as much as I may like, but I'm really looking forward to the next few weeks - getting things ready, tidying up the remaining winter rubbish all in anticipation of spring just round the corner and summer after that...

I'm getting all fidgety at just the thought.

Barbecues, summer evenings, flowers, crops. There's nowt like it.

                            *collapses with excitement.
