  • Age Difference for Couples/Partners

I'm curious to hear what kind of age differences people think are acceptable for couples. Perhaps also those of you with children; if they brought home a partner or prospective husband/wife, how much age difference would you probably consider to be ideal and how extreme would be acceptable?

I know it's not all about age but.........

One of my sons had a girlfriend in her 40's he was in his early 20's lol. Son no 3 just split with his girlfriend and she was 12 years older at 37 he being 25, what is it with my boys that they like older women lol.
Age doesnt matter at the end of the day, I got on well with both of them. I think if my daughter brought home a much older man I wouldnt like it.

Biggest difference in boyfriends ages was 10 years older than me (when I was about 20) and 8 years younger (when I was about 29-30). Neither age gap mattered much at the time. OH is 2 years younger, we've been together 16 years (how did that happen ?!)
We had our first and only child when I was 39. If we'd known how much fun parenthood would be, we might have done it on purpose earlier and had some more :-)

The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

My wife is 10 years younger than me - it's still hard to believe that the year I started work was the year she started school, aged 4 and a half ... I must add it was fifteen years later that we met ... we have been married 23 years

I'm 38 and OH is 47. Don't think I'd have much in common with anbody that was outside the age of a sibling but suppose you never know who you fall for. I'm the baby in my family with brothers 8 and 10 years older than me and I often surprise OH by knowing about obscure album tracks from his youth when I'd be too young to remember if it wasn't for indoctrination from the big brothers!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

In a certian age range I don't think it matters at all - whichever way it goes.
But I think it does catch up.
Between 25 and 40 I think people can be on the same wavelength and age doesn't matter - but give it 15 years and you have a 45 yo man married to a 60 yo woman or a 55yo woman married to a 70 yo man.
The bigger the age difference the bigger the problem.
When my sister was 25 she married a 50 yo man. Age didn't seem to matter to them then or for quite a while after but by the time she was 40 he was 65, at 50 he was 75 and at 60 he was 85. Her life hasn't been happy for a long time.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

These days is probably not the age but how many kids are tagging along.

When I moved here I thought that my neighbour house consisted off mother and father and son, (the son looked about 35ish, mum an dad about 60) the other day there was an ambulance outside the house and I asked the son how his mum was - err it turns out it was his wife and who I thought was the father was in fact the wife brother , that hole in the ground is never around when you need it most ☻
