    Aching but happy

    The sun came out this morning, I was so excited......so I went to the lottie, got the pathways cleared of grass and weeds, dug over a bed, cleared the artichoke bed of old leaves and fumigated the greenhouse. I felt so happy, until I went around the corner, some little git has been pinching my red kale! Some were stripped bare and it isnt rabbits etccc........oh well it happens.

    I am aching but happy, got some work done and I have been eating lunch, perusing my allotment diary that I kept last year. Going to start this years one tonight. It makes me laugh to see the mistakes and successes I had last year.

    Starting to rain again and the winds picking up, was I dreaming this morning??

    Lucky you. Glad you enjoyed it. Our plot seems to be going from frozen solid to waterlogged then back again, so little is being done. There's still plenty to harvest though, so I'm managing a few trips each week, even if only for a few minutes. I just can't wait until the weather picks up.
    Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

      Glad someone else has got the digging bug (although don't over do it, as my OH says, you can't actually get anything in the gorund yet anyway).
      Can you put a sign on your kale, saying 'hands off - grow your own you cheeky moo'
      I only had one Kale survive the caterpillars... it hasn't even been touched by the pigeons... what's wrong with it that they don't all want to eat it?

      meant to be rain here all weekend so instead that will be me resting up and planing the beds!

        LOL yes I will install a sign informing them any more kale nicked and Janeyo will come knocking lol........

          I went down the allotments this morning to drill the holes in my logs for the mushroom plugs. Unpacked my bag and realised I left the plugs in the fridge.

          It started to drizzle.

          Cut timber for weights on my net cloches and fitted them. Did a bit of clearing up.

          Started to cut the timber for the raspberry frames when the heavens opened up. Did the frames between showers and had to come home as OH needed to go shopping and do school run.

          And now the sun's come out.

          Typical!
          I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

            Ohhh, well done you, managing to get out and dig in a bit of sunshine. Every time I get the chance to get out there lately (when I'm not in the office) it either pees down or is frozen solid, neither good conditions for digging.

            Hey ho, my turn will come, meanwhile I will continue to read about your succes!!

            Oh, and if its any consolation, I lost a couple of cabbages to 'scavengers', who cut the head off but left the stalks, and in some cases parts of the head even, still there. There were parsnips in the ground in the next bed but they obviously didnt recognise what they were ..... grrrrrr!!!!!!!! I just hope they went to feed someone who would otherwise have gone hungry. And god help them if they start on my summer crops .......

              I was going to dig today, but then a friend invited me to the pub for lunch for her birthday. Hmmmm mud or food?
