I know you shouldn't plant peach and almond trees close together because of peach leaf curl - but how far apart is OK? I've had an almond for a couple of years and was given a peach for my birthday this year - which I obviously want to plant - any advice appreciated.

I thought that leaf curl was common in most peach or almonds.
Leaf curl is a disease. Diseases can sometimes be carried for miles on the wind, so I'd expect the trees to need to be at least 50yds apart to minimise disease transfer.

Another possible concern might be whether the two will cross-pollinate with each other, which can sometimes result in nasty-tasting nuts or fruit.

If you are completely organic in methods then you have no chance against leaf curl. It is actually a fungus for which there is no fully organic cure. In the 'organic' thread in the veg section it is pointed out that the geniuses who dictate what is organic and what isn't have declared that Bordeaux Mixture is organic. How anything based on Copper sulphate can be considered 'organic' is a mystery but I reckon that as the only truly organic treatment for peach leaf curl, digging up your tree and burning it, is a bit drastic that they have had to 'legalise' it. My peach got curl last year. A couple of sprayings with Bordeaux mixture sorted it.
Why didn't Noah just swat those 2 greenflies?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

Thanks - I use bordeaux mixture for toms so I guess a bit on the peach won't hurt. Is there a big risk of cross pollination - hadn't thought about that?
