  • still not joy, do i need to bring in the heavies

hello there, i havent been on for a while so going to do some reading later and catch up. I am STILL not having any joy obtaining an allotment, I was told my my local parish council that it would be mentioned in the next meeting, which has been and gone, I cannot put my name down for ones which are out of my area, although not far away and I ahve no hope of getting my nearest one, in fact the words they used were, oh dear you seem to be in a funny situation, theres not much we can do for you really, yes i know i could go and ask a farmer near if i could rent some land, but a, that will be quite expensive and b, its not the point. I have contacted NSLAG, no joy there either. Any ideas what to do next, or do I need to hire a HIT man to go and sort them out at the council, I counted at least 9 allotments between me and western super mare, and im not eligable for any!!!!!!! plse just cause im a woman!!!!!!
thank you for letting me get that off my chest

I feel for you in that you are so far unable to obtain the allotment you so much want.

If you are being discriminated against on the grounds of your gender, you probably have a valid recourse through the relevant tribunals.

Why are you not eligable for these allotments?
I can't see What is stopping you. Some of our allotments have area crieteria only because they have long waiting lists.

I would apply in writing to all the allotments and ask wow long the waiting list is and that you would like to be put on it.

Then I would contact my local MP and make a pain of my self.

One thing i sugest if the plots close to you have shops (ie-a shed) where they sell compost and gardening requisite's find out when they are open and present yourself at the shed and see whats the chance even of shareing a plot you never know it might work best of luck jacob

the reason why i cant get an allotment, is because i live in a so called rural area, but my house is a converted cow shed, hence the garden is concrete which was the cows yard, so even though im on the 2 year waiting list at the nearest allotment site, im out of the so called area, and unless 5 people in my village want allotments there is nothing they can do for me, they told me i would always be pushed to the end of the list.

I've no idea where you live Sindy(any chance of a hint of the area as others on the vine may be nearby and can help?) but I know when I went after an allotment I put my name down on about ten sites that were within a 10 mile radius of my home.

I now travel about 7 mile to my new allotment, which, lets face it, is about10 mins by car!

Maybe you need to expand your search perimeter?

I live about 5 miles from western super mare, my nearest allotment is about 3 miles, and im about 15 miles from bristol, ive tried western and they say im out of thier area, bristol also, no farmers are willing to sell there land to the council, and no-one in my village wants a allotment, mainly because they have huge gardens. I dont know what to do next
