A bit worried my tomatoes and peppers not really developing much in their soil blocks so transplanted to pots. I suspect the seed raising mix may not be suitable or I compacted the soil too much leaving little room for air hence slow development. Currently researching net for info re good mixes for soil block making and techniques. Most are in USA and use unusual ingredients like greensand and colloidal phosphate. Need UK mixes or ingredients if anyone has suggestions. Probably needs to be fine, no peat if possible and not dried out like the one I got this time round - needed a good soaking.
Have been champing at the bit all week to get more soil prep done before rains come. Finally made some effort today with an onion bed turned over (tiller of course!) and mix in compost for a bean bed too. Had to mark out where I was going to place all the rows and paths first so it looks quite impressive now all tidied up. Nothing like a few stakes to give impression of being organised haha.
Had a nice fire going to dispose of the sunflower stems and debris from trimming perenials. Ash can go into compost.
Took the sprouted broad beans (18) in loo rolls from greenhouse and set them in earth to form 2 rows which filled 3/4 of space. The rest I wil turn over soon and put seeds direct in ground. Covered with mesh tunnel at one end and a plastic cloche for rest.
Should be fine Wednesday so hopefully not too much rain so I can continue tilling and plant out Sweet peas.
