Exploring a Tropical Garden Centre in Cebu
This week’s adventure was a little different from the usual greenhouse updates and vegetable growing. While visiting Cebu in the Philippines, I had the chance to explore a local garden centre, and I quickly discovered plants that I’d never seen growing outdoors back home in the UK.

10 Days After Installing QuadGrow, Is It Working Yet?
It’s only been 10 days since I installed the QuadGrow system in the greenhouse, but I’m already starting to see some early signs of how the plants are responding.
It’s far too soon to call it a success, and there’s still every chance this could turn out to be a mistake, but at this...

Saving Compost Costs, Packing More Into Containers, and Keeping Tomatoes Protected
This week in the greenhouse it was all about making the most of the space I still had left after setting up the new QuadGrow system.
I’ve still got loads of tomato and pepper plants waiting to grow on, so rather than waste them, I decided to build up several large planters and maximise...Last edited by DGV; 20-05-2026, 12:24 PM.

I Replaced My Entire Greenhouse System… And It Might Fail
This week in the greenhouse I made the biggest gardening change I’ve done in years.
I’ve completely replaced the grow bag setup I’ve used season after season and switched everything over to a full QuadGrow self-watering system.
If this works, it could massively improve...

Pinot Noir Update, Greenhouse Grapes and My First Homemade Wine
This week in the greenhouse it was finally time for something I’ve been waiting months to do, giving an update on the Pinot Noir grapevines and transferring my very first homemade wine into its final carboy for long-term ageing.
Winemaking is definitely the slowest part of gardening....Last edited by DGV; 06-05-2026, 06:33 AM.

Potting On Chillies and Tomatoes, and Testing a New Growing Method
This week in the garden it’s all about potting on chillies and tomatoes, and getting them ready for the next stage of growth.
With some lovely sunshine finally showing up, it felt like the right time to move things forward and get these plants out of their smaller pots and into something...

Planting Cauliflowers Closer, and Making Every Inch Count
This week in the garden it was time to get some cauliflowers planted out, and at the same time make the most of every bit of space in the new raised bed.
With the soil in great condition and the new bed ready to go, this felt like the perfect opportunity to try something slightly different....

Getting Ahead Before the Weather Turns, Potatoes, Broad Beans & Peas
This week in the garden it was all about getting a few key jobs done before the weather turns.
It was lovely and sunny to start with, but with wind and rain on the way, it felt like the right time to get ahead while conditions were good.
Banking Up Potatoes in the Greenhou...

Building a New Raised Bed and Filling It for Less
This week in the garden, I’ve been working on something that’s been planned for a while…..building a new raised bed in the space I recently cleared.
After removing the old coal shed, I was left with a really useful gap between an existing bed and the wall. Rather than leave it unused,...
