Blackbirds are my favourite wild bird.
I have 2 males on my new lottie who come down to be fed. Last week they'd swoop down as I left to turn over the soil, blackie 1 on Flickr - Photo Sharing! but today they got so brave (or hungry) that they came right down to my feet to feed.

I like blackbirds too. And robins, and wrens, and collared doves, and all the birds that come into my garden or my allotment. I just wish the sparrows would find somewhere else to sit at five o'clock in the morning. At the moment their favourite place is the euonymus bush below my bedroom window!!!

I love the blackies too Two sheds. They're the best singers ever. This year I have one with a particularly fine voice, and he does the most amazing TRILL. I'm thrilled every time I hear it.

Our allotment neighbour has got a blackbird nesting in his shed with 3 babies in it. I like to watch mum and dad taking turns picking worm etc on our plot to feed them

i was speaking to my neighbour over the wall tonight...and two blackbirds were right at her feet...the closest I've seen them get to us humans...and they do have the loveliest singing voices don't they! Bless!

Blackbirds are as companiable as robins.I have one in my garden,also with a lot of white about him,who is so confident I have to watch where I'm putting my spade.
Alas too many cats around so I fear for him!

Polly, you reminded me that they are like robins, my friend in South Queensferry has her blackbirds back every year to feed off her windowsill. She's always quite chuffed this happens...which is nice I think!
She and her OH don't have a gardening fettish like us...but they like wildlife etc. I've got 3 cats, so I don't think I'll have many feathered friends really!

We have two sets of Mr and Mrs Blackbirds who live in the hedge opposite our garden, and they feed everyday in ours. One of the Mr Blackbirds sings his little heart out every night. Lovely! Bernie aka DDL

I once had a blackbird that would come into the kitchen, sit on the cooker and wait to be hand fed! glad my friend saw this otherwise even I would have thought I was dreaming!

I have Mildred and Mr Banks (Robin) that visit me on the plot whenever I'm digging. I thought Mildred was a Starling until someone on here pointed out that she was in fact a female blackbird.

Tell you what HW, I could do with a garden Pixie to help with the weeds!

I saw my first blackbird fledgling today - it managed to fly about 5 inches off the ground and cling like grim death to a bit of trellis.

Our "Wendy" does that. She sits on the edge of the sink. Occasionally I've discovered (from the guano slick on the cupboard door!) that she's been in when I've been in the garden and left the door open!
