Default Ducklings

Dear all,

Yesterday, we went to feed the wild ducks that live in the nearby park and we saw a duck couple with 4 ducklings... so pretty !
Have you seen ducklings in your area ?

Not yet, maybe it's a bit colder here?

I know they are breeding as the males are all acting a bit strange. We found one walking along a busy road in the town centre the other night - it was about 8.15 so pretty dark and he could easily have been run over.

I had to carry him all the way to the park and set him free by the lake, but he waddled off happily, quacking to his friends...

Nope - no ducklings here yet either; the female moorhen has disappeared from the scene though. Have you ever seen a baby moorhen - moorchick - they are the most gorgeous little things; and their daddies [who are loud anyway] get even louder when taking them out for a swim. You can hear them a mile or so away. Fabulous.

I've seen a pair of geese are back on a lake near my allotment, this will be the third year running, they hatch goslings and then they seem to all disappear, wonder if they are being harassed by local yobs etc?
Very sad, well third time lucky
Sue

I went to feed them again early this morning but couldn't find them anywhere. Hope the ducklings are doing fine, will try to go there again this afternoon. No Zazen, I haven't seen any moorechick plus the adult ones tend to run and stay away from people.

It is pretty cold here too, Jannine. The night temperature is around 3C but at day time is not that bad (around 10C or so), it has been pretty sunny for over a week now .

Sorry to hear that Sue, hope that you will see the goslings soon fingers crossed.
