Default Aww wow!

Managed to tak a quick pic of this little fella (or filly?! lol) today as i was walking around the garden. There were loads of them darting about above the pond!

This one obligingly stayed still for more than 2 seconds though

Gorgeous dragon fly Beki. You did well to get that shot as they are so fast. Thanks for the pic.

Actually it's a damsel fly, dragonflies are the big ones that can't fold their wings back. Beautiful insect!

Hehe.. well i knew it wasn't called a dragonfly, but i couldn't for the life of me think of what it actually WAS called! Hence me purposefully leaving out the name in my original post

I didn't want to appear silly, so i didn't ask what it was called, and was hoping someone would come along and say "oh, what a lovely *****"

And they did! So thanks LOL

I wondered if it was a Demoiselle, but apparently they are the damselflies with coloured wings; yours seems to have plain wings.

I reckon its either

a male Azure Damselfly

or male Common Blue Damselfly

Note the difference in the tail patterns when identifying them. The Common Blue's tail looks like it has been wrapped in blue tape, while the Azure's tail is more patterned.
