I know when I was looking a few years ago, the BBKA had a list of the different county associations. I know our local association run their own course introductions which were free to attend at the time, with all the gear provided. Not sure if they still are, but worth while a look if anyone is interested.

would absolutely love to keep some bees at my allotmment; but I'm worried that the "old school traditionalists" say its a hazard with small children and young families walking around.

Also I wouldnt want anyone to delbrietly disturb the hive, just to cause a nusiance! There's nothing that states I can't have them at my allotment, but I'm just a bit worried at the moment. I may just have to hold onto this dream until we move to a more rural area and on our own land.

We had a newsletter circulated at the allotments from the council who own the allotments, stating that because of the decline of the bee population anyone who went on a beekeeping course would be looked favourably upon if they wanted to keep bees at the allotments.
The course is about �150 though and then you've got to buy your own hives and gear after that!

I've just done a 6 week course, really interesting. Putting together beehives is a course in itself.... I plan to get the equipment together this year and get the bees next year, the expense is so large I just can't do it all in one go!

God the putting together was a nightmare I didnt go on a course and spent a lot of time with tacks in my mouth and a hammer in my hand head tilted with a slightly puzzled look on my face.

The frames are bad enough, there's 33 sitting on the kitchen table now in pieces - luckily I have a 4 year old who finds it fun!

We've just booked ourselves onto a novice bee keepers course starting mid February local to us in Somerset that's run by our local organisation - very excited!!!!

I'm hopefully starting one in a few weeks, though I reckon it'll be next year before I get bees myself. I need to send in the form tomorrow, I keep forgetting...
