  • What's eating my seedlings?

Some little bug (gers) have been at my seedlings, annoyingly they have eaten all the seed leaves off hundreds of baby plants. Mainly brassicas, but also a whole tray of marigolds, and all my celeriac.
I thought it was a bird at first, or maybe slugs, but I covered them over yesterday, and more have been eaten since. And I don't think it's slugs or snails, because they are nowhere to be seen, and no trails, whatever it is has eaten the leaves neatly and not bothered with the stalks.

There are lots of earwigs about, and woodlice, could these be the culprits?

Could be slugs I found some of the blighters under the soil. So I gave them a trip to next door's weed garden.

Hmm, I'll put a few of the organic slug pellets down in case, I'm still a bit bemused though... it's normally slugs that do that kind of damage isn't it?

It will be keel slugs, that live in the soil not on it.

They are all in modules and pots though, I've moved them into the middle of a gravelly area, and checked underneath and around all the plants. I found 2 little baby slugs, so I guess it might have been them.
Those 2 won't be causing any more trouble though, *evil laugh*!

It will be slugs, or baby snails. There are special agent ones, that slip in and out without leaving traces

they ate a whole tray of my parsley and I didn't even notice until I checked under the cell trays, and they were tucked up snug in the gaps.

Yep, I'm convinced now. I found a few more of the little blighters hiding in a clump of grass between paving slabs.
Funny thing is they haven't touched the lettuces, I'm beginning to wonder what's wrong with them.
Between the pigeons on the lottie, and slugs here I'm not having much luck!

You have my sympathy indigox. I have been reduced to putting slug pellets on the paving slabs in my greenhouse in an attempt to halt the little blighters I regularly find queuing at the GH door and they still get in!
Did you know that the average UK garden is apparently home to around 70,000 slugs
No wonder they get everywhere they are trying to go for world domination!!!!!

                    Wow, that is a lot!
At least mine is home to a few less now. Around 69,975 I'd say.

Someone must be doing really well because I think I have around one million of the blighters!
