  • What is wrong with my peppers?

Hey guys, I wonder if you can help? I have some pepper plants under a plastic greenhouse, and this year I'm getting a lot of what look like worm holes in my fruit. I've never seen any signs of bugs on the plants, nor inside the fruit when I crop them off, but I'm having to harvest peppers when they're green, when I'd like to ripen some to red if possible.
Here's a photo of three I grabbed today.

It looks to me like caterpillar damage. Have a closer look...

I've had plenty end up like that and it was caterpillars or slugs.

Sneaky little blighters. I've lost a lot of broccoli and kale to them this year, but I thought my peppers would be safe tucked up in the greenhouse.

It's so damned annoying cos the pepper looks fine, goes red then you find a ho,e on t'other side ....

I've been recommended netting to protect my crops for the future, but will that work for peppers and tomatoes in a greenhouse?

I've just picked some brassica leaves (don't ask me what!) and although they looked unmarked, there was the teeniest weeniest little caterpillar, disguising itself as a leaf vein. Little so and so - I could have lost my (almost) veggie status

Bit of extra protein there for you VC !!

Pepper on the right reminds me a bit of scorching, if it wasn't for the tell tale holes.

Shame you're not a bit closer Goatreich, you could have some of my orange ones - whilst imprisoned in the polytunnel at the lotty today by a particularly violent downpour, I had a count up and on 4 plants (1 California Wonder red and 3 Etudia orange) I have 21 peppers, 1 or 2 ripe ones, and most of the rest not far off.

I suppose they'd freeze ok sliced (I freeze chillies, after all), but I like roasted peppers stuffed with couscous or rice.......neither of which Mrs G likes!! Any suggestions what I could use instead, so I can get the peppers used up while they're fresh?

I'll skip the protein if you don't mind Vince
What about stuffing the pepper with a breadcrumb and herb mix, like stuffing a chicken?

Hmmm, there's a thought VC, although I wonder if it might go a little bit solid, sometimes goes a bit like that when in a chicken.....could always mix in some chopped veg of some sort and a bit of chopped bacon perhaps, or maybe stuff em with a tomatoey chilli bean mix. Got me thinking now......

Vince, how to you protect your plants inside the polytunnel from caterpillars and slugs?
