  • weed ID please: horses are eating it

For a friend. I said it was dock, she doesn't think it is. She says it's not like the other docks growing in the field.

I haven't seen it in the flesh, I'll be taking a look tomorrow. Just wondered if any of you has a 2nd opinion?

(I suspect it looks different to the other docks, because they're flowering and this one isn't yet)

I'd have said dock too. Its hard to think of other wild plants with big leathery leaves apart from the docks, sorrels and horseradish.

Yeah, I'd discounted sorrel and horseradish, the leaves are too dull & matt

Looks like dock to me too. There's the beginnings of a flowering shoot in that picture.

I wonder if there are any nettles close by?

Another vote for dock but it is a little different from the usual one with those pointed leaves.

Pretty sure we've got some just like it on the part of our lottie that we haven't yet got to.

A selection of dock leaves from the garden. All shapes and sizes - some pointed, some rounded, some coming to flower, others not.

I think the originals look different because they are wilted and have darkened.

I agree, it looks like dock, but I've never known a horse eat dock before. Are they definitely eating it?
