Default slug stop

Just had a mad Idear about stopping slugs,
how about cutting the bottum of a plant pot and sticking sand paper around the outside . if you have no sand paper then use pva glue and sharp sand.
going to give it a try what do you think

Sounds okay, except ... sandpaper will disintegrate in the wet. Sorry.

Sorry Dobby, I don't think it will work - well I wouldn't depend on it. I know they're not supposed to like rough things but I've never seen the evidence of it. I find them slithering over egg shells, gravel, sand, anything. Think you might have to develop another plan.

While my sister and I were out chestnutting,we wondered whether the chestnut casings placed around vulnerable plants would stop slugs?
