You have to cover your crops over to keep the pigeons and other little beauties off. Canes stuck in with nets draped over will do the job. Put something on the tips of the canes to stop you poking your eye out on them when you bend over the bed. I use pipe lagging cut into bits (49p a metre from B&Q) Works a treat.

Make some cloches out of wire netting and cover them with that . Make sure it's 1" mesh though as a baby wabbit will go straight thru 2" mesh

I put a cane at each corner topped with an empty yoghurt pot - Netting over the top and pegged down where it touches the ground. It works!

Re: netting - bear in mind the woodpigeon will land on the top of any net if it can and peck thru the holes. I've now resorted to using chicken mesh shaped into chimneys

Same type of thing as we've done with the brassica bed Flum, looks a bit ramshackle, but if it works, then it doesnt matter how it looks!

a garden cane with a cd disc attached to some string, the light reflecting blinds the blighters!! not literally you understand but just enough to send em packing.Alternatively a gun and a block of shortcrust should do the trick

Better than a CD on string or wire (that gets tangled by the wind) is to use an old VHS video cassette, break it open and take out the tape, then tie strips of it to anything you wish to keep the birds off! It is metallic tape, so reflects light to scare the birds as it moves in the breeze, and also makes a noise as it flutters, ideal for scaring pigeons off, plus you can use lots of it! We've used it on all our pea and bean supports, plus on the fedge with the rasps and which is next to the strawb bed! So far so good!
