Default New Spring Bulbs being eaten by hares

Hi guys,

Not sure if any of you can advise me, I have had about 30 of my new spring bulbs decimated by hares, I dont know how to stop them - any advice?

Can you lay chicken wire horizontally over the ground? The flowers will grow up thru, but animals can't dig the bulbs up. In theory.

Are they digging up the bulbs, or just eating the leaves and flower buds?
