Default Copper coated sheeting to deter slugs

Went into Wilkinsons last week and they sell water retaining sheets for hanging baskets and borders with a copper coating to deter slugs?

Has anyone tried this stuff out?
Does it actually work ?

Um, is that for the lesser-spotted flying slug?
they won't get to a hanging basket 'cos they need to be in constant contact with the soil (unlike snails, who might)
I think Wilkinsons might be pulling a fast one with this stuff

When you say water retaining - do you actually mean waterproof (cos if so the compost will get waterlogged and the plant roots will rot). Also slugs are not usually a problem with hanging baskets as they find it difficult to navigate the hanging brackets and chains. I suppose a few snails might find their way as they seem to climb much more than slugs do. I would think any slugs found in hanging baskets would have got there via eggs in the compost. I may be wrong.

Their not liners there mats that sit on top on the hanging basket/plot and you stick the plants through them (you can guess at this stage that im not what you call a proper gardener!)

The hanging baskets arnt really a problem, its the containers im going to plant up that worry be as I have a huge slug problem on my back yard!

Im going organic so no pellets. I will try slug traps (at least they get a nice drinkie before they go) and I was going to try copper tape until I saw these mats.

Anyone seen then in Wilkinsons?

Wilkinsons employ a person to give the slugs a helping hand
