Default Weather warning

HI All

Just watching the weather forecast and it seems most of the country will be having heavy rain and very strong winds on Sunday night.

Just thought I would warn anyone who does not know yet.

Loz

p.s sorry if this has been posted already or I have placed in the wrong area.

It's already very very windy here in Norfolk. I had an hour on the lottie this morning, but gave up - too cold and 'orrible. What a girl.

It was so cold on the lottie today I had to keep doing a daft little dance to warm up in between moving my strawberry plants. Rhythm isn't my strong point at the best of times, so I'm glad there was no-one else there to see!!!

I decided to carry on with my bark path in the front garden. See Flum chasing landscape fabric and narrowly avoiding the pond! I had to weigh it down with lump hammer, trowel, spade etc. Looking good now though. Could have picked a calmer day to do it!

well I have moved all my plants and spuds from the greenhouse into the house just in case. Some of the plastic sides came out last week so do not fancy my veg being blown all over the garden

It's probably timely to say that most greenhouse damage is caused not by the wind itself, but by loose items hitting it whilst being blown around, so move things like buckets and pots and anything else which might give your glass a whack.

Visited the north end of the field (my allotment) today and found all the debris blown there in the SE/SW winds for the last five months. Absolutely staggerred at the amount of stuff blowing around the garden in a gale. I found:

bits of twigs and a stem from a tree (and we don't have trees here!)
plant pots
bits of string and rope
four slates (not off our roof!)
a piece off the wheelbarrow
one bird feeder
one dog toy
masses of paper rubbish
brussel sprout stem and top
a cabbage
part of a fence

oh and a dinghy - got blown there three winters ago and has remained due to my inability to dig it out of the ground!

Bluemoon's right - make sure you've got nothing to blow around in the gale.

Just looked on Metcheck and it seems as if Ireland, the South West and south Wales will be the worst hit. It looks as if we will get it tomorrow morning. Not very nice at the moment, grey and rain

Forecast here isn't too bad, no gales. However after a nice day we've just had a couple of really heavy rain/hail showers. Just painted the door of the outside loo, too!! Hope it'll be OK.

i've just been out to look at the North Sea - dead calm, no wind at all.

The calm before the storm? Or a false alarm?

Think the wind is starting to build up here. We have been warned that Pembrokeshire will be quite badly hit so Madmax bolted the greenhouse down today - here's hoping it will all be okay.

Hang on tight everyone!

i feel sick i've had my greenhouse for 4 weeks and i live in the south west and live by slobs with loads of loose debris in there garden the only thing i can do is drink a couple of bottles of wine and pray for a false alarm. and maybe try not to cry to much if the worst does happen.

samw04, I do hope it is a false alarm. I have only had mine a few weeks and would have a major hissy fit ( I would put my 5 month to shame) if my greenhouse gets any serious damage.

Hope you dont get any damage

Loz

Lozza and Sam, hope your G/houses are OK. The window to mine blew off, and I was outside in my dressing gown making repairs at 0700 ready for round two later today.

Hubby bought me a second greenhouse, we had put the framework together and it was just waiting for glass to go in. Got up this morning and framework is trashed bounced round the garden in the night narrowly missing my main greenhouse so nothing broken there. I am gutted, had weighted it down too. It is just a heap of mangled aluminium now
