I would draw the line through Fort William. If you're closer to Inverness than to Glasgow or Edinburgh, then I think you can safely say you're northern. Mind you, Jenny's closer to Norway than Inverness, what does that tell you?!

Been raining here for the last two weeks, just cheered up today. Still no sign of any courgettes yet but the plants are coming away now!

Yes I'm definately north! Even my courgettes in the polytunnel are not doing that great.

I wonder how many members there are in north Scotland ?

NW Gale 8 - spiffing! Managed to get all the window boxes into the greenhouse last night. Also temperature down to 12 degrees and lashing rain.

Broad bean got a bashing in the gales, makes me pine for a polytunnel. Had to fire up the Rayburn last night, it was that cold! Not sure how productive the patch will be this year, it looks like this cold and dull weather is set to continue for the foreseeable future. Late spring, now feels like autumn's come early . Hmm.

I agree BW, just like autumn setting in. Even the polytunnel adn my new greenhouse are not making great temperatures. It was 14 degrees today, but the wind has gone into the north and apparently set to stay there for a while.

Hi Jennie and BW
We had a pretty mixed bag today - period s of very intense sun followed by overcast dull conditions and mizzley rain - the only constant being the strong gusty wind from the NW.
We klit our wood burning stove the other night too BW

NW winds for the last two days, dull, damp, no sun and only 14 degrees. Heating on in the house. But peas and beans outside are doing quite well considering.

Another grey day for us. Light showers of rain. Still maintaining 14 degrees but winds are in the NW for the next week apparently.

An amazingly settled week of weather, wind in the north, but relatively mild and very warm when the sun comes out. Lots of midges unfortunately as some very still days, but for the first time my onions outside are drying nicely and I had to water the garden!

Scorcher here today - no wind early morning and got eaten alive by midges. Then the wind got up, but it was WARM and the whole day right up to 6.30 this evening has been warm and sunny. Still only showing 21 degrees on the car. We are obviously acclimatised to this weather and now find 21 degrees the equivalent of 30.

Went for a walk for the first time this year in shorts and a sleeveless top - no thermal "just in case". Also had to damp down the tunnel and greenhouse mid day.

Can we have the same tomorrow please !

Yep - Like Jennie, today was a scorcher again but we clouded over at about 6 this evening and then it rained - looked as if it was goona p*** down but lasted 10 mins then stopped. Very close and threatening thunder from the look of things, but may just pass over.

p.s - jennie, you might need to explain what a thermal is to our southern cousins

A "thermal" is an extremely warm, layered duvet which one requires to wear in northern climes to maintain body heat in extreme low temperatures. Sometimes it has an integral "wind blanket" which stops the "lazy" wind.

That do SR?

"Lazy wind" - from my Suffolk days. Lazy wind is that which is too lazy to go ra-a-nd you so goes thru you.

Not a cloud in the sky, too hot to work - sweating just standing still !
Seriously, yesterday, today and through to Monday are forecast as being really hot up here ! Makes a bloody change from sitting in front of the TV, listening to the rain battering down as Auntie Beeb rabbits on about the heatwave currently engulfing everywhere south of Sheffield :

Another scorcher again today - got the barbie out for supper tonight - only came in cause the midgies were chewin' us up.
Heavy dews in the mornings and a bit chilly at night - had the woodburning stove on last night for an hour or so to take the chill off, but absolutely sweltering in the day.

Just spent two weeks in Spain with temperatures around 30 degrees. Came home on Tuesday (18th) at 13.00 and the garden looked fantastic, flowers, etc. By 1400 the wind had got up and everything was laid flat!

It was the Equinox Gale. Apparently Force 11 (Violent Storm 56-65 knots) at times during the night. The garden is now decimated, but at least I saw it for an hou
