Here in Swansea the hail was like ball bearings. Luckily I managed to get some of my stuff undercover, but I had to retreat as it was painful to be out in and sheltering in the greenhouse did not seem a great idea at the time!
Sadly I think that I will see carnage when I pop up there in a bit. A tray of squashes/courgettes I rescued on the way in have shredded leaves - so anything that was not undercover is likely to have sustained damage.While wearing your night clothes, plant cucumbers on the 1st May before the sun comes up, and they will not be attacked by bugs.Comment

Mine are second earlies planted in Feb so nearly ready. It looks like a couple are snapped with the rest blown over, I'll just leave them now moving them would just create more damage.Originally posted by daviddevantnhisspiritwife View PostSame here

My broad beans look ok, though some have bullet holes. Potatoes in the ground mostly ok. I have some growing in a potato grow sack and they have been destroyed! The couple of courgettes/squashes that went out the other day look like they have been ravaged by a tiger. My son's competition sunflower looks like it has been shot 20 times with an air rifle. I had to come back in to take a work call. Perhaps if the slugs lay down their knives and forks and we have a warm night things might recover a bit.

We also had the deluge,a bit of rumble,it's suprising the amount that came down,on a lottie check,things look ok,some slimes were on walk about in broad daylight,thank the lord we did not have the hail,closed the doors ext to keep a bit of heat in,the other day it was 80 plus with the doors open,today,was a chilly barely 60,my body cannot get warn,have put the heating on for a while,as well as extra clothes,sigpicAnother nutter ,wife,mother, nan and nanan,love my growing places,seed collection and sharing,also one of theseComment
