  • Wild flower seeds between crops?

    Hi

Is there any reason not to scatter those packets of wild flower seeds between your veg to act as mulch / encourage bees etc? Apart from the obvious one of giving up catch-crop space of course. I've got quite a few packets having naively thought I could just scatter them in the grass, but apparently they have to go into soil or they can't take hold. And it'd be a nice way to soften a new and currently rather formal looking veggie plot (bit like scuffing new trainers because they're too shiny and white?!).

Wild flowers can't compete with grass, but you could start them in modules then transplant into holes in the lawn: might make mowing difficult though

I have flowers all over my allotment ~ I try to restrict them to the edges of beds, but sometimes one will pop up in the middle. I like it, it's cheerful, attracts bees and it hides my veggies from two-legged pests

What a good idea TS, I'll try to grow a few in modules - although maybe for next year since I'm a bit pushed this year trying to make sure I fill all the beds Tony's made for me with veggies to eat, and it's becoming something of a full time job at the moment along with the weeding and watering and chickens and dog and strimming and... lol . So maybe I just scatter some amongst the veg for now, but mainly at the edges. Just out of interest, why are you removing all the basic pink foxgloves from your beds and only keeping the white ones? Lovely lottie by the way

I have a pathological hatred of pink (and yellow)

Lol, you had me worried there for a minute - I thought there must be something 'bad' about them! I love pink and yellow . And blue, white, orange, red, purple... I think I must have inherited my grandma's love of lurid colours .
