  • When to plant toms and cucs ?

I have 6 toms and 4 cucs growing well on a south facing window cill. They are all at the 2 true leaf stage, and i am keen to plant them in the cold green house in growbags.

    Is it too early ?

I wouldn't put in unheated greenhouse for a while, as they can get killed off by the cold nights.

The weather at the moment is deceiving, as it seems summery, but we are likely to get a frost or three before mid/late May depending on where you live.

The cucumbers are particularly delicate cold wise, but you may have more success with the toms with some protection. Two Sheds or others would probably give you more advice on them.

Tomatoes really need a constant 10 degrees, a cold night will check them and they will stop growing. Better to keep them in a bit longer I think. However tempting it is!

Cucumbers are even worse I think they need more like 15 degrees so probably another month+ till they can go out.

Having said that we all want to push the boundaries and you might get lucky. Its upto you whether you want to risk it. You could definitely put them outside on these sunny days to get an extra boost.

I oersonally have a few spare tomato plants of each variety this year that ared oing as good as the rest, I've sacrificed them to their iutside pots as a gamble to see if I get away with it but I've got back ups. Each night I've wrapped them in fleece just for added protection until were a bit warmer throughout the night where I am. Trial and eroor I think, but less of the error hopefully.

Really depends where you are as well, nearer the equator tends to be a lot warmer than towards the poles and right by the sea is often much milder than inland.............you can always pop your location in your profile, it will help you get better answers to questions like this.
Jiving on down to the beach to see the blue and the gray, seems to be all and it's rosy-it's a beautiful day!

Ne'er cast a clout till May is out. Keep the tomatoes inside for a while yet, they're safe from frost on your windowsills.
