    When to plant out semi ripe cuttings.

    Hello all.

    I'm planning on taking some semi ripe privet hedge cuttings this summer. I've googled how to do this and when but I'm not sure when I can actually plant them in the ground to make my permanant hedge.

    Would late October be ok, or will it be better in the spring.

    I presume you are going to strike your cuttings this summer. In that case they will not make any new growth before next spring, which would be the best time to transplant any that are actually showing signs of growth.

      Fingers crossed that they take and I have something to plant in the spring. Would late April be classed as spring?

        I prefer to plant shrubs etc in the autumn, because the ground is warmer than it is in the spring.

          The plants will be planted in the southern part of the Vienne in France. About ½ way down on the west side of France.

              Similar to here but generally warmer. Usually shorter winters.

                Right, today I planted my cuttings using the advice from here How To Propagate Semi Ripe Stem Cuttings (Lifestyle & Home: Planting)

                I have them placed in front of my french window on the inside. The above video gives the instructions for approx the next 7-8 weeks.

                What happens after that period? Do I keep them in situ, water, and then plant out in spring?
