When am I pushing it for 'snips and squash?

parsnips are good for a couple of months yet, you'll get smaller ones the later you do it but they'll still be edible.
Squash for saving for winter should be done around a few weeks before your last frost if you want a good harvest, so in the next month for them. Squash for eating over the summer, courgettes etc, can be left till the end of may if you like.

I haven't sown my squash yet. Will probably do it under cover in the next couple of weeks. Don't normally plant out until mid May.

Have sown some parsnips, but I'm rubbish at them, so won't comment!

I'd just so as normal anyway, and go with the flow.

OMG! How permanent is the posititon? Switzerland is an expensive place to live, I believe. Good luck with your decision making, whichever option you choose.

Oh golly, so sorry, I just found this and I never replied! The move was for Novartis, not Syngenta and I obviously told em to bugger orf, as I'm still here! I did look around Basel, and although there was lots of elderflower, there were very few apartments with green space. So, although it was a permanent position, I would never have stayed long term, anyway.

So, I am now digging over a new plot (part of the smallholding I now live on - other house rented out) and I am happy to say there will be many SURREY onions next year and no Swiss ones!
