Something wrong with this pot. Seems to be falling over and a bit curled. Label tells me it has both Rote and Maris Peer in it.the others in the background are fine.

One of mine looks like that snow!
I'm only guessing, but certainly in my one, there was less support from the soil. I had eatrhed up with a lighter compost mix instead of garden soil like the others and the bag (mine are left over seed spuds in old compost sacks) was shorter.
The plant got a bit top heavy, had a tendancy to 'loll' about a bit....and then went all curly.
I've just left it but topped it up a bit more so I'll be interested to hear the other replies.

I had never heard of 'blackleg' so after goggling it and looking at the images it now explains what many of my spuds had last year - and I thought it was frost damage derrrrr!I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. Thomas A. Edison

Thanks everyone. Either it's lack of support or black leg perhaps. They were not as earthed up as some so I topped up the bag yesterday. But they look to me like the growth is abnormal, sort of curling. So I remain suspicious. I'll have another look in a bit. A couple of stems had snapped but I put that down to the wind damaging them as they were not upright. What am I looking for in early blackleg?
I don't want to risk it spreading to the other 40-odd plantsComment

It only spreads through the earth they're grown in, in a bag it shouldn't spread to others unless the seed potatoes were infected. That happens sometimes, I'm sorry to say
The stems start to turn black and the leaves curl and go yellow, the plants eventually collapse as the stems rot.Comment

Gave it a proper inspection today...well, yesterday.
The leaves have a strange curl to their growth, unlike all the other plants that are setting up a good canopy.
Noticed that the stems, even the healthier looking ones, are darker than all the others I have.
Dug around a bit and found that there is some damage and browning below the surface.
Looks like it could be something has been eating it, or otherwise blackleg. But the other plant in the same pot looks healthy.
It's a different variety, so could still be blackleg but be resistant, perhaps. Is slug damage a possibility?Last edited by Snow; 04-06-2015, 12:06 AM.Comment

Reply to Heated mat for Tom's and chilliesI use a mix of six scoops of compost three scoops of sand/grit and two scoops of perlite,the quantity is unimportant as long as the ratio is the same, if for seeds I use this mix, if I am potting on I add some blood, fish and bone, along with a small quantity of chicken manure pellets
