what's the best courgette

Defender is doing well for me this year. Green, but very productive and tasty. Still tender even bigger than courgette size (which happens every time you turn your back for a couple of days)

Eight Ball for me, cricket ball size round dark green courgettes, very tasty, solid and prolific, and the best thing is , its a bush so it dosn't take up a lot of room.

Have been delighted with 'one ball' (cue for a song....) which is a round yellow courgette - almost lemony in flavour, bit of a slow ltarter but now we can't keep up! Just made my first lot of courgette chilli pickle. Yum. Good luck in choosing!

I have been really impressed with the yellow ones this year.

The round floridor variety was so prolific I could not keep up - they kept turning into footballs. The soleil are still going strong and are much more sensible about their growth.

The real surprise has been a pale green climber called tomboncino, which produces slightly naughty shaped crunchy specimens, that are pretty and loved by all - it's going up the pergola and it over 6 foot high now and the other one is running round the garden on the top fence wire.

I like my courgettes raw, so the dark green ones are really not for me.

Yellow ones definately make the best soup as well - with a teaspoonful of thai red curry mix and a big handful of chopped mint to 3 big courgettes and 2 modest onions.

The yellow hook ones maybe crookneck squash - I planted mine late and am just starting to pick now - rather oddly hairy.

Am growing Striato d'Napoli from Real Seeds Vegetable Seed : Courgettes & Summer Squash and have been very impressed. There's no trace of milldew which I normally have by now and they're a nice neat plant too so don't sprawl everywhere.
