  • What to sow/plant now?

Allotment is coming along nicely, but I'm starting to get some space where I have harvested lettuce, peas and some other salads. What can I grow at this time of the year?

I already have - Potatoes, sweetcorn, French beans (climbing and dwarf), runner beans, courgettes, squash, pumpkin, PSB, carrots, onions, garlic, beetroot, parsnips, turnips, leeks, celery and some lettuces left.

I can see that in another couple of months I'll have an empty plot. Is there anything I can start growing now that will continue through autumn and into winter?

Was going to ask similarly if anyone had a chart showing sowing and harvesting for most common GYO stuff?

    Edit - found this http://www.allotment.org.uk/vegetabl...able-chart.php

Thanks for that link just ordered the following:
      Cabbage Durham Early
      Cauliflower All The Year Round
      Chinese Cabbage Green Rocket F1
      Indian Mustard - Amsoi
      Spring Onion - white lisbon
      and some winter onion sets

Anything else people would add to the list willing to give anything a go. What about winter lettuce read it in GYO mag is it tasty and are the results any good?

I'm sowing winter radish and mooli now
Got some space reserved for Rocket and land cress next month - will go all through winter.
Any more space will have green manure, hate to leave any space bare!

Why not put some more lettuce in now, and every 2 weeks. I like little gem

Change varieties in August to the more hardy types - winter ones are good for a great spring harvest. If you have cloches they will be even earlier. I can really recommend lambs lettuce for picking all winter through.

Chinese type green come into their own soon - do you like Pak Choi/chinese cabbage?

Trying kale is a good idea - they can be sown now for late winter/spring - in the interim they are good salad leaves when small. The flowing buds are even tastier than PSB as well.
