Default Welsh poppy seeds....

Hi there,

We've got those Welsh poppies (Meconopsis cambrica) sprouting out all over the garden, some have got heads full of lovely black seeds already, apart from making teeny weeny maracas - what can be done with them? Can they be eaten ??

I've read that it's just the opium poppy (Papaver somniferum) seeds which are edible.

As far as I can gather you're right, it IS only the opium poppy seeds that can be eaten. That's why I'm growing them, Shirleys papaver mixed!

Funny you should say that Flum, in some states of America it's illegal (a sick bird?) to grow them!

Yeah well, prohibition has never worked, It would be fine as long as they kept there joyless laws there but they feel they must police the world. I thought that was why we stuck em on the Mayflower? ...imagine a bloomer without poppy seeds...Huh!

Grow them? they do that themselves! The thought police would have some sickle work at the bottom of my garden...looks a bit like Afghanistan!
