  • Weeks To Harvest

Has anyone ever come across a 'Weeks to Harvest' chart ?

I know this would never be an exact science, but a guide of this sort might have helped with my weeks of glut and famine

My general rule of thumb is, if you can't store it well, then succession sow. I include in that stuff that can usually deal with being outside over winter.

And, eat to the season if you can't store it.

I think there are guides on t'internet - have you googled?

Get hold of Dr Hessayon's "The Vegetable Expert". Available from all good book shops. An excellent reference book - gives expected germination times, times from sowing to harvest as well as spacing and expected yield.

Also Hessayon's "Vegetable Jotter", like a guide to what to sow when, different varieties described, and a place on each page for you to add your own comments - great for reference in future years. I've dug out my old one from 1990, going to tippex out the comments I made and start again
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

I'm growing a number of crops to dry this year - several types of bean and pea, so that I will have something home grown to eat even when the brassicas AREN'T in evidence over the winter.
