  • weed membrane under raised bed..or not?

Expanding veg garden yet again and am just about to put in a 2m x 1m raised bed. (The link- a- board type ones. )

I am wondering whether or not to put weed membrane under the bed as this bit of garden has not been cleared so thoroughly as the rest. I didn;t put any under the others and we are debating if plants in the bed will be able to send roots down far enough.

Any opinions one way or the other?

Is your bed just 1 board high? If so then forego the membrane. I put membrane under mine but its 2 boards high and slightly dug down and its worked out fine. I wouldnt want to do it much shallower than 2 boards though.

I think unless you have quite bad bindweed (which I did) or other horrible perennial weeds its not worth worrying about membrane.

I have Linkaboard beds and I didn't put weed suppressant down. They've been fine.

          ah well!

Mr Hamster has been digging it over and weeding by hand...

so I am quite happy to do as usual, the less work the better (esp for me!)

          Thanks everyone!
