  • Veg and lawn weed and feed

    Hi All

I am probably worrying for nothing but I am someone that does not use weed killers as I like to grow my own veg. Unfortuantly the new OH uses weed killer and I have a few pots of potatoes, strawberries and peas in tubs up near the house. Whilst I was at work he thought he would be helpful and put complete weed and feed on the garden lawn so I can have a nice lawn for the summer. My question is that will him sprinkling that around hurt my veg and will I still be able to eat them??

if it has only been applied to the lawn it won't affect your veg.

Don't use any of the grass clippings as a mulch, though! The stuff I use on my lawn at home says not to use clippings for a mulch until you've cut it three times, and not to use any that you compost until they've been rotted down for six months.
The compost I make at home is usually at least a year old before it gets used and even then I don't put it on my veg beds - just dig it into my flower boarders. Never had a problem with it.
Check what it says on the stuff you used.

The weed and feed I used a while ago was a dry powder. I spread it on the grass with a spinner spreader and some of the dust must have got air born and killed the bottom sectiion of the surrounding hedge. Needless to say I've never used it again.
Not everyone is as clumsy as me though so you'll probably be ok.

PS Potatoes and toms (same family) are particularily prone to weedkiller drift though. The farmer next door sprayed his fields with summat and my toms were scorched in the greenhouse!
