    Are tumbling toms f1?

    Just wondering, are these f1 or not. Doesn't say anything on the packet I bought from Wilkos but am not sure, really want to save the seed.

    Also just another quickie. How likely is it that toms cross pollinate. I am growing 4/5 varieties and want tosave the seed fro 2/3 of these.

    The original Tumbler was and is a F1 but I am fairly sure that Tumbling Tom is not.

    If you have grown you Toms within about 20ft of each other then cross pollination could be an issue for seed saving. Though even distance is no guarantee of purity.

      However, most modern (as against beefsteak and heritage) tomatoes have their sexual parts enclosed within the anther cone. I've never had any cross pollination and I grow half a dozen types per year in a 10 x 6 greenhouse.

        Good to know about the cross pollination. Think I will definitly save my own then as far as the tumbling toms go.

        One other thing as I am here talking about seeds. I have noticed that real seeds sell Alicante and Gardners Delight. They are a lot dearer than the ones in Wilkos. Now I am not tight but was wondering is there a significant difference in fruit between the two or not
