Too late to sow leeks?

What is wrong with straight in to the ground other wise ordinary seed trays will do do not worry about the lateness they will catch up

I've only just sown some Musselburgh and they should see us thru til March April time so I hope it's not too late

Thanks for the reassurance. I would plant straight out if I was able to get to the plot more often but as as I'm working away at the moment I don't want to saddle my OH with frequent visits when he's up to the eyeballs in DIY.

Phew! had me worried. I sowed a few modules of Porvite yesterday. I never considered that it might be too late.

Likewise Nick, they're just showing through now!

I have some others which were to go in when the early tatties came out but they're way to advanced and will be nearly ready for eating by then!

I'll just have to find somewhere else to plant them methinks!

Can't have too many leeks!!!

Just sowing my second lot now too. They are going into the polytunnel after the peas (not sure if that is ok for rotation ?) but then they should see us through until next April (hopefully). Just pulled the last of last years using this method, although the middles were a bit solid!

Hello Bionda and welcome to the Vine. I hope your leeks will be fine as I am planning to sow some now. I have some ready to plant out which I intend to eat as baby leeks as soon as possible, and some I am going to plant now to give me leeks through the winter. Good luck.

iv just sown my third lot of leeks that should do me till next year, and as we had a goood harvest last year, And sowed strait in the ground at the end of June i wouldn't worry.I'M no expert though.

Am I right in thinking these are supposed to follow new potatoes?
Does this not mess up further crop rotations? Although I have a section between my current designated spot for spring onions/garlic/leeks and the potato section.

I'm following John Seymour who says that leeks go in after the new pots have been lifted, and then next year this bed will be peas and beans. I'm now worried that I've not got enough leeks (50 - is that enough for 2 families...?) so might sow some more in a pot later today....

I've only got about 30 planted, so after reading this will be off tonight to plant another lot!

I make a mean chicken and leek lasagne, so any surplus (hah!) will go in one of those.
