  • Tomatoes - will they survive outside?

I have planted about six different toms this year from a variety pack of seeds. I germinated them on a windowsill and when they were a few inches high I put them in the plastic mini greenhouse outside that I got for Christmas.
But they haven't really grown much since then and are all still about 4 inches high without much foliage, also some of the leaves are going a bit yellow. I've brought a couple of the really poorly ones back inside but the problem is I live in a little house with a boisterous toddler and the only sunny windowsills that are out of reach of little fingers are now full of my squash, pepper, courgette and cauli seedlings.
We had a frost last night and I'm worried about the toms undercover outside. Will they still produce fruit if they have a chilly start in life or should I evacuate them indoors as an emergency measure?

Without going into too much detail. Yes.
In a larger plastic tunnel they might have been OK.

I have put a little advice on early tomato growing in the Growing Techniques section, but I think the mods have to 'vet' it before it shows up.

Ta, I will have to find some room somewhere then. Does it matter if they don't get much direct sunlight?

The problem with the mini greenhouse seems to be that it gets very hot on a sunny day but doesn't hold any heat in when the sun goes down.

        Hi Nik

They really do need light, maybe you could just bring them in at night, and some how vent your mini tunnel on very hot days or put them in a sheltered spot.
You also might be able to move your cauli's so the toms can go in their place.
