  • tomato help please (millefleur)

My millefleur tomatoes are getting discoloured on the leaves and I think they may be starting to get deficient in something - does anybody know what would be the best thing to feed them?
As You can see by the second picture, they have a lot of flowers on and seem to be taking a long time to turn to fruit. I've had to support the bottom truss on the grass box for my mower as the weight of just the flowers has dragged it to the floor (the branch supporting it is only about 1cm wide) I can't actually get into the greenhouse anymore!

I pruned off some of the leaves the other day but don't know whether to take off more so it puts it's energy into the fruit

I'm afraid that's just how those plants are... You'll get the fruit along in dribs and drabs eventually, but it takes ages for the first ones to appear and ripen. I grew them last year, and haven't bothered with them this year.

If you're feeding the plants with a decent tomato food, they shouldn't really need anything else.

Have never grown them before but they look a bit like the hundreds and thousands plants. Second and third picture definitely looks as if they would have done better in a hanging basket. I think I would also be tempted to stop all growing tips so the plant puts all its energy into fruit production, and as you are doing start taking the lower leaves off the plants.

It would have to be a very big hanging basket!

I've managed to get all the trusses supported now with various arrangements of canes and bits of string, found quite a few fruit had set once I lifted them up a bit, at least I can get past them now. These certainly aren't a low maintenance variety. I've also cut down a bit more foliage on my others so they get a bit more light - at least they're only small fruit so they should ripen fairly quickly (well I hope so anyway)
I've been feeding them with the liquid off my bokashi composter but not as regularly as I should, will start to feed them more now.

Yeah, they are an indeterminate/cordon variety, so wouldn't really work in a basket

Mine got botrytis last year, they really were a pain in the butt for the amount of fruit I got from them, we've just got Sungold this year - much easier and plenty of fruit

It looks like a slight magnesium deficiency to me. You could give them an epsom salt spray.
