    Time to de-bug?

    Hello all,

    Do you have any tips on how to purge the plot, polytunnel and greenhouse of pesky overwintering pests?

    What should I be doing right now to get rid of them, and what should I be planning to do later in the year? All advice much appreciated!

      Wrong time of year for this I think Holly. Should have been done before the new growing season started.

        I use yellow sticky traps in the greenhouse, also grow basil near my tomatoes. Elsewhere I net against pest damage but do not spray. I leave Mother Nature to it!
        At the end of the growing season I scrub every inch of the greenhouse with ***** Fluid, then smoke bomb with a sulphur candle.

          Same here, at the end of the season, a good scrub down and a sulphure candle. At the moment, just inspection, pick off and squash!
          I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
          Now a little Shrinking Violet.

            We are lucky enough to have a thrush nesting in the hedge at the bottom of the garden
            Judging by the number of empty snail shells (on the concrete outside the greenhouse, on 5 or 6 paving stones, and on the stone steps) the thrush family will keep the snail population low for us!
            And - though the shell still makes that crunching noise, at least there is no slime to clear from your boots!
