  • Are these male or female?

I've got loads of flowers on my courgettes, but I'm not sure if they are male or female.

    Can someone help, please!

The females have "baby" courgettes behind the flowers the males don't.
It looks as though you have Female, but u will find some male in there somewhere.
Someone more experienced will be along shortly.

        They are FEMALE Magic!
There will be some male flowers around for pollination, so just let nature take her course and you will have lots of corgettes to harvest very soon.

Make sure you check them regularly, because they seem to go from nice tender corgettes into big marrows in a space of days!!!

I'm envious that your courgettes are so far ahead of mine, but then you ARE in Kent and I'm in the frozen North.

There's no need to worry Magiclady.
The courgettes know what is going on and will produce fruits when they are ready - like now.
Just check them and pick them everyday or you will have marrows - but they are nice too - roasted with herbs sprinkled over. Enjoy.

I'm so excited ...... having just watched River Cottage and seen Hugh picking courgettes not much bigger than mine, I think I'll be getting my first harvests very soon

Once they get going there will be no stopping them. I have round ones and straight ones. The straights are a little slow off the mark (only two so far) but the rounds......
Needless to say we have had stuffed courgettes for supper twice this week and a delicious creamy garlic courgette concoction for lunch. I have given away two and there will be another 2 or 3 ready tomorrow. Making 16 so far since last Thursday.

How can I get them to change sex?

Most of mine are producing male flowers - how can I get them to give me some fruits?

I have round ones too but not sure what size they should be for picking, picked one today and its the size of a tennis ball. Is that about right.
                          Very new to this.
