  • Sweetcorn only 'half-filled'

I've had some great cobs so far, but the of four I harvested today, only one was filled with kernels. The other three had about 1-2" of juicy kernels, then the rest had grown, but looked shrivelled.

    What is going on??

    Thanks

It hadn't been fertilised properly. Did you grow your sweetcorn in blocks or rows? Blocks is better as it increases the chance of getting full cobs although the outside ones can still suffer a bit as the pollen is wind borne. I help mine along a bit by nudging them on the way past and you see the pollen falling out the top flower.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Yeah, sounds like bad set.... it can be helped by putting horticultarl fleece around the block too... cuts the windspeed and increases eddying...
