Default supermaret potatoes

How many grow people grow potatoes from the supermarket, I am going to plant Marfona these came fronm a 56lb bag of potatoes.

I think it's not recommended as you don't know if they're desease free etc and don't know what you might introduce into your soil... but I may be wrong there

Some people here have grown before and some of us are growing supermarket potatoes this year (like me) although generally not recommended but it helps if you grow them only in pots as they're less exposed to pest and disease. I do check that my supermarket potatoes are at least British. I can't see any harm in growing 1-3 tubers in pots and see how it goes. That's just my thoughts, hopefully someone will come up with better advice.

mine are seed potatoes but I just had these few and wondered, I Might try them on my allotment in a big compost bin upside down with plast sheeting on the botton.

You might find it useful to check out this potato thread link below with excellent advice from our experienced growers (see Alice's posts) about growing in containers. I'm personally using the tips for my own potato growing effort .

potato tubs/ barrells - advice please
