    Hi folks

my stawberry's are laying on the ground and are being happly eated by slugs and snails!

I know that you are supposed to lay straw under them to help prevent this, I dont have any straw so question is can I use stredded paper?

You can but it won't prevent slug damage, but then neither will straw. In fact straw can actually make it worse because they hide under it. At least that's what I found. The reason you're supposed to use straw is to help keep the fruits dry and free from mud splats. Preventing beasties from eating them is not so easy - pretty much everything wants to have a nibble.

Get some slug gel and draw a circle around the fruits touching the floor as instructed. The slugs never cross the line
