I am really surprised your maincrop spuds are ready. I've only just started lifting my earlies. Maincrop are usually left in the ground until August/September. However if they are really ready to be lifted then leave them on the soil for an hour or two to dry off, brush off the soil, and store in hessian or paper sacks.

I used to harvest mains when the haulm died down. I don't have room to grow them now.
