  • stalling tomatoes

most of my plants have a reasonable amount of fruit that has reached a decent size but also a lot of small fruit that seems to have stalled - it there anything i can do to get these to start growing again??

also i've some Marmande beefsteaks which are reaching a decent size - should i take these off and ripen them on a sill (they're very much green at the moment!) to try and get the other fruit to develop further??

    thanks for any help.

I thought my toms would never ripen but in the last week or so they've started. Maybe you could pray for some sunshine

Feed them and pray for sunshine.

It could be that you just have to many tomatoes on each plant and the plant can't cope. Good idea to take fruit off once it has turned colour to give the rest a chance.

Are you feeding them? Personally I wouldn't take green fruit off because I don't think they taste as nice ripened indoors as on the vine.

Removing fruit from the vine to ripen elsewhere is a last resort as it will affect the flavour/sweetness of the fruit.

With your location and the time of year I would consider removing some of the smaller fruit to allow the best to continue the process of ripening. Like others have said keep them well fed and fingers crossed for good weather.

Thanks guys, will follow your advice... the pray mat is threadbare with the year we've had!
